WILD HORSES

 photo IMG_8254_zps0e934416.jpg

One day in June, four girls jumped in a car for a road trip to the beach, where British summertime performed exactly as we'd hoped with a stormy sky: setting the scene perfectly for the Wild Horses lookbook.

OK, so we might have been sopping by the end of the day, but the Thriftette lookbook turned out perfectly. Lucie and Grace had a set vision in mind - atmospheric, moody - and model Harriet was ideal in her role as beach gypsy. My main responsibilities as assistant were getting coffee from McDonalds, holding the umbrella over our model and saying "shall we get her in the car now? Her legs have gone blue", and honestly at one point I was ready to pack it in and huff off to sit in the warm. Then I realised what an absolute trooper Harriet was and I had no right at all to complain!

If it were Vogue there'd surely be some sort of heated tent or caravan with an endless supply of hot chocolate and fleecy blankets, and maybe we'd be in Barbados or something, with a Photoshopped stormy sky. One day, one day..

You can view the entire lookbook here and the accompanying video here. Enjoy.

I LUV ME DOC MAR-ENS

Photobucket

In case there is any doubt whereabouts in England I am from, skip to 1:15 of this Stylesight video to hear me talk about my Doc Mar-ens and how my jumper is just sooooo Clueless in a thoroughly Northern accent (its broadness surprises even me).

Alternatively, watch the whole thing to see some genuinely interesting people and outfits. I particularly like Jane Rapley: "sometimes I think they try too hard, but then when you're young you have to"...

And the full outfit, as featured on The Style Scout. In retrospect I'm really not keen on the whole look but.. whatever. You live and learn right?

My mate Henry and I

This evening I met Henry Holland. And pretty much forced my business card onto him. Shy man gets nowt, right?

I attended the Aspire Fashion Event and whilst I can't really comment on the event - I left after finding out the question and answer session had been cancelled, plus I have a big uni day tomorrow - I did have a nice little chat with Mr Holland about how much we both liked the House of Holland pre Spring/Summer 2012 video, made by Mariano Vivanco. It's been posted around blogland for a while now, but check it out here - it is pretty awesome!

One Black Dress, Many Ways

A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by the lovely Stephanie, aka the Wardrobe Angel, to see if I'd like to assist her with styling a video. I of course jumped at the chance.

So many of us own so many items of clothing, but still complain that we have nothing to wear (I am guilty of this, too, as my boyfriend will attest). The Wardrobe Angel clears out clothes which do not suit your shape or lifestyle choices turns them into cash for you. Then, Stephanie will reorganise your remaining pieces into outfits for you - even adding labels - making getting dressed in the morning a no-brainer. The Wardrobe Angel blog is also very useful for clothing tips and tricks, should you not require the full service right now. There are super sale-shopping tips, and the ongoing theme is "shop your own wardrobe"!

The concept of this video is "One Black Dress, Many Ways". As explained, the dress is a basic, black, shift-style dress - there is likely to be something very similar in your wardrobe. Stephanie and I styled the dress according to different trends and occasions. For example, there are heritage, Parisian, and beach-ready looks.

Take a look at the video yourself - I personally am incredibly impressed with the production, and Stephanie's strong on-screen presence! If Gok ever takes a sabbatical, you know who to call...

Here are a few of my favourites:

These are beach, Parisian, party, and heritage times two. My camera makes the dress look almost glittery - I promise it isn't! As you can see, we re-used things as much as we could to create a "capsule" wardrobe.

I hope the post inspires you to go shop your own wardrobe, and create some fantastic outfits!

Lanvin a/w 2011 video

Breaking my silence to feature the gorgeous new Lanvin a/w 2011 video. I love the long-limbed clumsiness of Raquel and Karen, the faded glamour of their surroundings; and, of course, Alber stealing the show at the very end.

Enjoy!
